Rain killed the DIY session, so KNIFE NYC set up in a comedy club

The post is short and it is the whole of the public record so far. In u/Tambushi's words, the venue "let us come in and shred," and "People brought some gnarly parks, and we had a great time." The post closes with thanks to the KNIFE squad "for turning up and making this an awesome day."

That is four facts worth holding onto:

• The outdoor meetup at the DIY was called off because of weather.
• The Tiny Cupboard Comedy Club hosted the session indoors instead.
• Attendees brought fingerboard parks with them.
• The gathering is identified in the post as a KNIFE NYC pop-up.

Everything else — the headcount, the exact location of the DIY, who built which park, who organized the day — is not in the post, and at the time of writing nobody involved has published it.

This is the part of the scene that deserves more credit than it gets. A rained-out skate meet is a rained-out meet. A rained-out fingerboard meet is a logistics problem with a solution in the trunk of somebody's car.

The obstacles are the venue. A handful of ledges, a rail, a kicker or two, a quarter with metal coping, all built to a scale that fits a 32–34 mm deck — and the whole session reassembles on whatever flat surface the room offers. Tables, a stage, a bar top. Wax travels. Riptape travels. The sound of trucks on coping is the only thing you cannot pack down, and in a comedy club on a wet afternoon it is presumably not the strangest noise the room has heard.

What the post describes — riders arriving with parks rather than arriving to one — is the whole reason indoor rescues like this work. Nobody had to rebuild anything. They carried it in.

Two parties, by name, from the post itself.

The Tiny Cupboard Comedy Club. A venue that said yes on short notice to a group of people who wanted to put obstacles on its surfaces. Venues that do that for small scenes are rarer than they should be, and the thank-you in the post reads like it was earned.

The KNIFE squad. u/Tambushi's thanks go to them for turning up. Who turned up, and how many, the post does not say — and we are not going to estimate a crowd we cannot count.

The parks are the third credit and the one currently missing. Somebody built or bought each setup that got carried into that room, and none of the makers are named in the post. If you were there and your park was in the mix, the thread is the place to put your name on it.

No next date has been announced. The post is a recap, not a listing, and neither KNIFE nor the venue has published anything about a repeat at the time of writing.

For now, the thread on r/Fingerboards is where the photos and the replies are landing. If the DIY dries out and the outdoor version happens after all, that is where it will get posted first.
