On September 23 a post in r/Fingerboards by u/SpiritIntuitiveMarty asked a question that turns up sooner or later for anyone building their own mold files: how do you get the super deep pockets you see on certain decks, when you're laying the mold out in Mold F.O.R.G.E.?
The poster put two hypotheses on the table in their own words: "Are these wheel flares and a short deck transition that create a pocket? Are they wheel flares with a negative value?"
Mold F.O.R.G.E. is a free, open-source desktop app for designing fingerboard molds, published by a developer in Italy who goes by Abboni. You set the deck's shape in millimetres, and it exports both halves of the press and a shaper template as STEP files for a 3D printer. The first version came out in March 2026 and the latest release, v1.3.0, on 18 April. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and it lives on Mold F.O.R.G.E.'s GitHub page. The maker documents every setting in the project's wiki and the code is public, so this question can be answered from the tool itself.
