Kalye Decks, the Oceanside, California deck maker whose graphics draw on Philippine street culture, posted a short on November 1 called "I DON'T NEED ANOTHER FINGERBOARD SETUP." Watch the short on YouTube. Within a few days it had passed 12,000 views and drawn 39 comments.
The title is the line everyone with a drawer of boards has said out loud at least once. Underneath the joke is a real question, and it comes up all the time:
"I already have a setup I like. Do I actually need another one, or am I just buying stuff?"
Short answer
You don't need one. A new setup earns its place when it does something your current boards can't: a different width, a different wheel feel, a different tune, or a board you're happy to wear out on rails. If it's the same spec as what you already ride with a new graphic on the bottom, it's a collection piece. That's a perfectly good reason to own a board, as long as you know that's what you're buying.
