"Can I make a solid little rail without welding, bending metal or buying a kit?" It comes up constantly, and a recent post offers one answer.
In a post in r/Fingerboards titled "First DIY in about a decade", u/mainlymoltencheese shared a kicker rail built from a closet knob, a layer of UV resin and jewellery concrete. Their own verdict: it "turned out a bit messy, but the approach is promising," and the result is a "really fun and sturdy little kicker rail."
Short answer
The method is a simple cast. Set the knob in a mold, lock it in place with a thin layer of UV resin, then fill the rest of the mold with jewelry concrete. The resin does the holding; the concrete does the mass. What the post doesn't give is measurements, cure times, the knob's material or the mold itself, so treat this as a recipe outline rather than a spec sheet.
