Cartwheels V4R Super 8.5 mm wheels: what the listing tells you, and what to check

Straight from the Cartwheels V4R Super product page on Caramel Fingerboards:

• Diameter: 8.5 mm
• Tire: soft plastic, described as "for silent ride"
• Core: "original aluminum core"
• Color: white tire, silver core
• Compatibility: the brand says they work with all standard trucks
• In the box: four wheels and stickers
• Price: listed at 35.90 on the Caramel Fingerboards shop

The description also calls the wheels suitable for "both technical tricks and clean cruising" and claims high grip and control. Those are the brand's words; we haven't seen independent rider reports on them yet.

A few things you'd normally want before buying wheels aren't on the page:

1. Bearings. The listing names an aluminum core but doesn't say whether the wheel spins on bearings or rides directly on the axle. That changes how it rolls and how you maintain it.
2. Width and contact patch. Only diameter is given. Width affects how the wheel sits under your trucks and how much tire meets the surface.
3. Tire material in detail. It's described as soft plastic, not urethane, and no hardness figure is given. The listing doesn't say how the tire is bonded to the core.
4. Currency and shipping. The price shows as 35.90; check the shop for currency and where it ships.

None of that means the wheels are good or bad. It means you'll want to ask, or wait for riders to post about them.

Compare with what you ride now

Measure the diameter of your current wheels. If 8.5 mm is bigger, expect the board to sit a little higher off the obstacle, which changes how pop and flick feel and how your trucks meet a ledge's coping. If it's about the same, the difference will come down to the tire and core.

Think about your surfaces

A soft, quiet tire is appealing on a table or desk session where noise matters. On a built park with rough or textured ramps, how the tire grips and rolls over the surface matters more than silence. Riders differ a lot on how much grip they want, so treat "high-performance grip" as a starting point, not a verdict.

Check the trucks

"Works with all standard trucks" is a reasonable claim to verify, not assume. Look at your axle length and nut, and make sure the wheel width leaves room to tighten without binding the wheel.

• Buying on diameter alone. A bigger wheel isn't automatically faster or more stable; the core, tire and your trucks all play in.
• Reading "silent" as "slow." Quiet describes the sound, not the roll. You won't know how it rolls on your surfaces until someone reports back.
• Overtightening axle nuts. With any new wheel, snug the nut, then back off until the wheel spins freely with no side play.
• Skipping the fit check. Confirm the wheels clear your deck and don't rub at full turn, especially if you ride loose bushings.

If the spec sheet fits what you're after, the full details and price are on the V4R Super listing at Caramel Fingerboards. If you're on the fence, the bearing and width questions above are the ones that will settle it. Measure your current wheels first, so you know exactly what you're changing.
