Three things in our own coverage point that way.
First, the Maple Lab pack already carries a construction story under the costume. It shrinks the chunky Wide Boys profile down to 8mm x 6.2mm in 75D urethane. That is a shape and a hardness, stated plainly, on a holiday release. The spec is sitting right there. It just isn't the headline yet.
Second, material and feel are getting sold on other parts of the setup too. FBS says its Extra Smooth tape has a new formula for the first time since 2008, tuned to feel worn in from the first session. Grip is about the least glamorous thing on a board, and the release was about how it feels under the fingers, not how it looks. Once a tape maker leads on formula, a wheel maker leading on its pour stops looking like a stretch.
Third, the extra-wide hardware piece made the point that a 48 mm deck is a graphic and a 40 mm truck is a tooling decision. The same logic applies to wheels. A colorway is a pigment choice. A new profile, a new durometer or a dual-core pairing of two different urethanes is a production choice, and production choices are what riders have just shown they will line up for on decks.
The brand I'd watch is one that sells both sides. The knowledge bank lists FlatFace as making decks and G-series bearing wheels. A shop that has just sold hand-cut split ply as one-offs already has the language for a wheel sold on how it was made. That is my expectation, not anything FlatFace has said.
