Blackriver has a new rider. On October 30, the Blackriver TV channel posted a video titled "Adrián Velázquez | Welcome to the Blackriver Team," introducing him as the brand's newest team rider.
The post went up on October 30. It was the first public word from Blackriver that Velázquez is riding for the team.
The announcement
The video description is short and warm. Blackriver calls it "a proper welcome" and asks viewers to join in welcoming Velázquez "as our newest Blackriver team rider."
The brand says it is looking ahead to time on the road and on the ramps with him, and closes by asking viewers to "show him some love in the comments."
That is the whole of the official text. The description doesn't say where Velázquez rides, how long he has been on a board, what his setup looks like, or how the team spot came about.
We’re so happy to have Adrián as part of the crew and can’t wait for all the sessions, trips and good times ahead.
Who's behind it
Blackriver is the German maker founded by Martin Ehrenberger, known for professional fingerboard ramps and obstacles and, since 2010, Blackriver Trucks, the BRTs a lot of riders run. The brand founded the Fast Fingers contest in 2000 and built the first fingerboard park, according to its own history.
A Blackriver team spot puts a rider in front of the channel that has carried those contests and edits for years, which is why a welcome video like this one gets noticed.
Still open
We want to hear this story from Velázquez himself: his local scene, how he got into riding, and the route that led to Blackriver. None of that is in the team post, and we won't fill it in from a welcome clip.
In the announcement, Blackriver doesn't say:
The place to see his riding is the source. The welcome edit is up on Blackriver TV's YouTube channel, and the comments are open if you want to take Blackriver up on its invitation.
