A builder posted a question to r/Fingerboards this week that a lot of people reach eventually: the park at their shop has been coming together over the last year, they finally have enough ramps in the arrangement they want, and now they have to decide whether to stain it, paint it, or leave the wood raw.
Short answer: there is no single correct coating, but there is a correct order of thinking. Split the build into surfaces a board actually touches and surfaces nobody rides. On the ride surfaces you want a thin, hard, evenly cured film — or nothing at all. On everything else, use whatever looks good. Then test your chosen finish on an offcut of the same material before you put a brush anywhere near the park.
The post doesn't say what wood the park is built from, and it doesn't say whether the shop floor is open to the public, so treat the steps below as a framework rather than a prescription for that specific build.
